The Lunch Club meets every Thursday
during term time at 12.15 and caters for
those who are prepared to admit to being
elderly, especially any who live alone. The
meal consists of a freshly cooked main
course and dessert followed by tea or
coffee. The menu varies between the
seasons with lighter dishes in the summer
and more traditional, steak and kidney pie,
stew and dumplings and fruit crumbles etc.
in the winter.
A full Christmas dinner is served on the last
meeting in December. The South Hall in
which the Club meets can seat up to 36
and the charge per week, payable on
arrival, is £3. While the meal may be the
centrepiece of Lunch Club the opportunity
to make or meet friends is equally
appreciated.
All the work in buying, cooking and serving
the meals, not to mention the washing up,
is carried out by volunteers, most working
on a once a month rota and new helpers
are always welcome.
Just before the Lunch Club, starting at
10:30am, there is a Bible study for older
folk.
